BREAST LIFTING

(MASTOPEXIA)

When the problem is not one of size but of shape and suspension, the indicated procedure is mastopexy.

After pregnancy, breastfeeding, or a rapid weight loss process, the breasts may lose firmness and sag; the ideal treatment for these cases is mastopexy. This surgical procedure elevates the breast tissue, allows repositioning of the nipple, and improves the shape of the breasts.

As in the rest of the breast plastic surgeries, the factors that surgeons take into account to plan the mastopexy are: age of the patient, size and shape of the breasts, skin condition and possible existence of diseases.

The decision regarding the scars also depends on that previous diagnosis. They can have different patterns:

.

1.- Only around the areola (periareolar mastopexy)

2.- Around the areola and a vertical one (circumvertical mastopexy or "lollipop")

3.- Around the areola, one vertical and one horizontal near the submammary groove (inverted T or “anchor” mastopexy)

We remove excess skin, move the areola-nipple complex to a higher position and, if necessary, place implants. Mastopexy is an operation that can last 2 to 4 hours.

We recommend rest for one to two weeks after the mastopexy. Then the patient can resume her normal activities, without bearing weight, doing physical activity for 6 weeks and not sunbathing for the next 6 months.
